Danzatlán 2020: Elisa Carrillo and the Russian ballet in a single click

Danzatlán arose with the purpose of generating a dialogue between choreographers, dancers, academics and specialists from various countries, in addition to promoting Mexican talent.

The international ballet prize Benoit de la Danse 2019, considered the ‘Oscar of Ballet‘, rests in the house of Elisa Carrillo, lead dancer of the Berlin Staatsballett Ballet, who until a few days ago was able to rehearse in the theater, now that sanitary measures have been relaxed in the German capital. But nevertheless, The Mexican dancer and a large number of interpreters took advantage of the confinement to prepare one more edition of the Danzatlán International Festival., only this time it will be totally digital.

During the remote press conference, Elisa Carrillo, along with Mikhail Kaniskin, artistic director of the Danzatlán Festival and First Dancer of the Berlin Opera; el coreógrafo Yuri Smekalov, by the Eifman Ballet of Saint Petersburg; and Marcela González Salas, EDOMEX Secretary of Culture and Sports, gave the details of the third edition of this great artistic event, which will take place from 22 al 29 May with totally free access for the public.

"I am very excited to be able to bring art to your home, dance and much joy through Danzatlán in just one click. We will present Brazilian company shows, Russia, Canada, and Mexico, as well as master classes with world dance stars ”. Activities include participation of the Eifman Ballet of Saint Petersburg, the Bratislava Opera Ballet, Body Group, the Antonio Gades Company, and at the national level, of the National Dance Company, by Tania Pérez-Salás, of Dance of the State of Mexico, the Ballet de Monterrey and A poc A poc.

Last year, Elisa Carrillo was recognized in Russia with the award "Soul of the Dance" granted by the Russian Ministry of Culture. This edition of Danzatlán will include for the first time the broadcast of the Kremlin Gala, annual event at the State Kremlin Palace bringing together the brightest ballet dancers from around the world. In 2020 the 130 years of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mexico, and this festival is a clear example of the fortuitous collaboration in the arts that exists between both nations.

Mikhail kaniskin, artistic director of the festival, said that this festival they do it with all the love of art, "despite the circumstances, we have prepared a very special program, with many innovative things. Mikhail mentioned that the presentation of this festival is unprecedented, for example, regarding the work “Infinita Frida”, a show inspired by the life of Frida Kahlo, under the direction of choreographer Yuri Smekalov.

"Frida always showed strength and was a warrior in difficult situations. She was locked up, and under those conditions he discovered his creative side, which has transpired to this day. It is an example that, no matter what happens in life, you can get where you want if you do the right thing. Both in Russia and Mexico people are isolated, that's why it's important to do this kind of projects, we must keep the theater alive ”, dijo Yuri, in addition to repeatedly expressing his taste for friendship between Russia and Mexico, and see it translated in Danzatlán.

The Danzatlán festival, initiative of the Elisa Carrillo Cabrera Foundation, in co-production with the government of the State of Mexico, it is the largest and most important of its kind in Mexico.

Finally, Marcela González Salas, Secretary of Culture and Sports of the State of Mexico, She said that she was very honored to contribute to the achievement of bringing together the world's great ballets in an event like Danzatlán., for the third consecutive year. "We are sure that it is through culture that we have been able to spend all these days of confinement. Even if it's in a virtual format, the purpose of the festival is to get to the bottom of what dance is: the movement, the souls of the dancers, discover beauty, the harmony, and the solidarity between them. This is how we create community and it is a priority to continue promoting these initiatives ”.

22 of May, 19:00 hrs: The Corsair, by the Perm Opera Ballet, in Russia.

23 of May, 19:00 hrs: mariposas fugitives, inspired by the poem Mists of the Mexican Laura Méndez de Cuenca, with choreography by Yazmín Barragán and original composition by Armando Pineda.

25 of May, 19:00 hrs: Kosmos, por parte de Ballets Jazz Montreal, by the Greek Andonis Foniadakis.

27 of May, 19:00 hrs: Carmen, start of the Antonio Gades Company, the most important of flamenco dance, inside and outside of Spain.
